New round for the placement of girls in ocean-based industry
Oct 7, 2025
The goal is to strengthen the position of women in the marine industry. After last year's successful deployment, NCE Blue Legasea, in collaboration with the business community and high schools in the region, is ready for a new round this autumn.
Strong Desire from Both Industry and Schools
The feedback from both students and companies last year was so positive that all stakeholders expressed a strong desire to continue the initiative. The companies see the value of meeting young, curious talents and the potential it has for future recruitment. The girls, on their part, get a unique opportunity to get to know local companies - and not least to meet the female employees in the industry - and learn from their experiences and advice.

Building on Last Year's Experiences
Last year, five students from Molde, Ålesund, and Atlanten High School gained insight into what it's like to work in different parts of the seafood industry. They visited Orivo AS, GC Rieber VivoMega AS, and Hofseth International AS – and the feedback was unequivocally positive. "An educational experience that inspired me for future studies and potential jobs," said one of the fortunate participants from last year's placement.
"We have so many exciting companies and skilled women in our region. In the WIN-BIG project, these women become a source of knowledge, inspiration, and networking opportunities for younger girls who are on their way to making their first choices regarding studies and future options. A WIN-WIN situation," says project manager Silje Bjørke at NCE Blue Legasea.
Looking Forward to Round Two
Round two is approaching where a new selection of girls will have the opportunity to participate, and the planning is already underway. The goal is to give even more young women a practical taste of what it is like to work in one of Norway's most future-oriented industries. This year, we have also welcomed Seagems Norway AS as a placement company.

"We know that recruitment and diversity will be crucial moving forward. Therefore, we are happy to connect a new group of girls with local companies in the seafood industry this fall," says Bjørke.
A Contribution to the Future Workforce
The placement is part of the EU project WIN-BIG, which contributes to strengthening women's positions in the seafood industry. By giving young women the opportunity to get to know local companies, the stakeholders hope to strengthen both recruitment and diversity in an industry with great growth opportunities.
The implementation of the placements has been made possible by funding from Møre and Romsdal County Municipality and Sparebanken Møre.
