Skipsteknisk found speed in the AI sprint.

Nov 19, 2025

At Skipsteknisk, the work with artificial intelligence has been about solving real needs, not chasing trends. Through "Sprint to AI," they have gained new insights, functional prototypes, and a clearer picture of where the path forward can lead.

When Skipsteknisk went for "Sprint to AI" earlier this year, they started the process with a clear goal. They wanted to understand how artificial intelligence can actually create value in everyday life, not just be a buzzword.

— We are engineers, and we were looking for a tool that could help us streamline processes. We were not after an AI hype, but something that actually works. And that is potentially what we have now, says project manager Martin Brandshaug.

Through the sprint, Skipsteknisk has developed three prototypes that are now being further tested. Although they do not share details about the solutions, they report that the work has already had ripple effects throughout the organization.

A Creative and Educational Process

Together with Pål Haugen from Norsk Katapult Digital and ÅKP, and Anna With Rødstøl from ÅKP, the team at Skipsteknisk engaged in an intensive process to identify opportunities and challenges.

— We were able to showcase and go through our entire design process, and really dug into things and highlighted different challenges. We also learned a lot, says Brandshaug.

Senior Engineer Kristoffer Sandøy nods.

— One of the best things about the sprint was precisely the creative process. We talked about how the knowledge boost and the way we worked might have been the most valuable takeaway from it all.

A professional boost

After several weeks of interdisciplinary work, testing, and reflection, Skipsteknisk is left with more than just prototypes.

— We learned a lot about ourselves and about the way forward. I believe many can benefit from that, says Brandshaug.

Anna With Rødstøl highlights learning as one of the most important gains.

— Skipsteknisk has been very good at documenting, involving, and reflecting throughout the process. That's how you really get value out of a sprint.

Haugen summarizes the experience as follows:

— It is better to aim too high than to stand still. We reached a bit high, but there is learning in that as well.
